Max is a 16 year old Thoroughbred gelding who ran a lot of races in a short amount of time. He made $65,000, but his feet paid the price. His last race was in 2012 and he came directly to Second Chance Ranch for rehabilitation and rehoming. He was adopted and had a loving home for 6 years until that family had life changes. He came back permanently in 2018 to retire. Max requires a special, x-ray guided shoe on his front feet called a clog.Without it, his navicular bone would rotate and come through the hoof. With his Clogs, he is perfectly sound and pain free. Max is a horse who has had a PROFOUND impact on kids and adults who come through SCR's equine assisted therapy program.
Max needs to see the vet and farrier for his hooves every six weeks, and the cost is $600. Some Horseshoer's Secret supplement would be a great help (a 30 day supply is $45.59). He would like a hooded waterproof turnout blanket (size 82, 220 g, runs $169.00) and some German horse muffins (a six pound bag is $31.95).
Special Horses, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization. It is a GuideStar Platinum Participant and has been a Great Nonprofit since 2015. Since 2009, our mission has been to provide outstanding 501(c)(3) equine rescue organizations with fundraising opportunities, marketing assistance, educational opportunities, grant assistance and community outreach. The organizations we support are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses in need, and are carefully screened and selected based on their trustworthy reputation, dedication, and excellent service to the animals in their care. Rescuing horses leaves these organizations little time to plan, organize, and execute fundraisers and outreach, and it is the mission of Special Horses to help them help equines in need.
